Below are the 20 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in America.

Do you live in any one of these places?
Do you really feel it is that bad?

1) Northeast Auburn Gresham Chicago, IL

The neighborhood of Northeast Auburn Gresham in Chicago is by far one of the most dangerous places in America. The zip code of 60620 in Illinois has a violent crime rate of 116.56 per 1000 people. There is a 1 in 9 chance that you will become a victim in this neighborhood. This is another prime example of why the murder and crime rates are so high in this major American city.

2) East of Barton and McFarland in Detroit, MI

This is what a typical street resembles in the neighborhood East of Barton and McFarland in Detroit. The zip code of 48209 has a violent crime rate of 149.28 per 1000 residents. The chance of becoming a victim in this neighborhood is 1 in 7 which is truly sad. Here is yet another reason why it is so cold in the D!

3) Fountain Park St. Louis, MO

Welcome to Fountain Park in St. Louis, Missouri, home to massive amounts of violent crimes every year. With a name like Fountain Park you wouldn't expect the neighborhood to have a 82.76 violent crime rate per 1,000 residents, would you? Living in the 63113 and 63108 zip codes provide you with a 1 in 12 chance of becoming a victim. This is another prime example of how poverty creates crime.

4) North Lawndale Chicago, IL

Crime may be on the way down in North Lawndale, but not enough . Currently Chi-Raq is the murder capital of the US and North Lawndale has too many of them happening in their area for its own good. The 60623 zip code has a violent crime rate of 80.17 per 1,000 residents. Not to mention if you do live here there is a 1 in 12 chance that you will eventually become a victim of some crime.

5) Northwest Springdale Tulsa, OK

The Northwest Springdale section of Tulsa, Oklahoma is the most dangerous neighborhood within the entire state. The 74106 and 74110 zip codes comprise most of the violent crimes inside of of Oklahoma and it is due to the poverty level in the area. The violent crime rate in this neighborhood is 66.88 per 1,000 residents. The chances of residents becoming a victim in this section of Tulsa is 1 in 15.

6) Northeast of East Broadway and Ingram in West Memphis, AR

Many of you reading this have probably never heard of a city called West Memphis, Arkansas but it has one of the most dangerous areas in the U.S. That neighborhood is the section northeast of East Broadway and Ingram which utilizes the zip code of 72301. This area is home to a violent crime rate of 68.90 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim to a crime is the neighborhood is 1 in 11.

7) Southeast Cathedral District Saginaw, MI

Here is a scene all too familiar for residents of the Southeast Cathedral District neighborhood in Saginaw, MI. Police and their dogs ravaging crime scenes looking for evidence to attempt to solve violent crimes. The 48601 zip code in Saginaw has a violent crime rate of 85.64 per 1,000 residents and the chances of those residents becoming a victim is 1 in 12. One of the saddest statistics is that 96% of the area's residents don't have a four-year college degree.

8) Harlem Near St. Nicholas and 125th in New York

This area is famous for the Apollo theater and shopping district, however it is also infamous for the crime that occurs within it. The section of Harlem near St. Nicholas and 125th street in the borough of Manhattan has forever been linked to the trafficking of illegal drugs and where there is a drug market, there is bound to be violence and danger. The zip code of 10027 has a violent crime rate of 116.30 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in this neighborhood is 1 in 9 which is extremely high.

9) Sunnyside Houston, TX

With a name like Sunnyside one would expect this section of Houston, Texas to be exactly that, however it is sort of like one of those nicknames that people have when a really big guy's name is tiny. The neighborhood of Houston that possesses the 77051 zip code is one of the most dangerous in the entire state of Texas. The violent crime rate in Sunnyside is 91.27 per 1,000 residents. The chances of one of the those residents becoming a victim is an extremely high 1 in 11.

10) Islandview Detroit, MI

Yet another neighborhood from the Motor City finds its way on the list of most dangerous neighborhoods in America and it is sad. How can all of this crime occur in such a small proximity? Islandview occupies the 48207 zip code and has an enormous violent crime rate of 145.29 per 1,000 residents and there is a 1 in 7 chance of becoming a victim to a crime in this deadly neighborhood. A 3,300 square foot vacant building in this area recently sold for $800 (similar properties sold for in excess to $70,000 in 2002) which is further proof that no one truly wants to live in this area.

11) Washington Park Chicago, IL

You shouldn't be surprised seeing another Chicago neighborhood on this list. This time it's the Washington Park neighborhood, which occupies the 60637 zip code. This area has a violent crime rate of 65.77 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in this neighborhood are 1 in 15 which sadly is lower than some of the other Chicago areas which have made this list.

12) Downtown Memphis, TN

Memphis, Tennessee is known for being one of the favorite musical cities in America but the downtown section is known for something completely different; crime! The downtown section of Memphis is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America and has been for quite some time now. The section of Memphis which occupies the 38126 zip code has a violent crime rate of 67.26 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in this neighborhood is 1 in 15.

13) North Avenue and Bel Air Road in Baltimore, MD

If you have ever seen the HBO television series 'The Wire' then you shouldn't be surprised one bit that a Baltimore, MD neighborhood made this list. Nicknamed 'Bodymore' due to all of the dead bodies which are found around the city, this major American city has quite a few dangerous neighborhoods. The are near North Avenue and Bel Air Road may just be the worst as it has a violent crime rate of 149.98 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in the 21213 zip code is an astonishing 1 in 7.

14) North Indianapolis, IN

Not far from where race car drivers kiss the bricks when they win big-time events such as the Indianapolis 500 sits one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America. North Indianapolis, Indiana is one of the most crime ridden areas that the state has. The area which occupies the zip code of 46208 has a violent crime rate of 69.2 per 1,000 residents. The chances of its residents becoming a victim is 1 in 14.

15) Gaston Park Memphis, TN

When homes in a neighborhood are allowed to look like the one pictured here, you know it must be a very bad area. That is the case when it comes to the Gaston Park section of Memphis, Tennessee. The area code of 38126 has a violent crime rate of 82.91 per 1,000 residents and there is a 1 in 12 chance of becoming a victim. 17% of its residents travel more than an hour to get to work which is the longest commute rate in the entire country.

16) Joyland Atlanta, GA

Certain neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia are very prominent filled with positive and respectful residents while others such as the one shown here are the exact opposite. The Joyland neighborhood in Atlanta is one of the most dangerous areas in America. The section which occupies the 30315 zip code has a 86.14 violent crime rate per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in Joyland is 1 in 12.

17) Columbus Square St. Louis, MO

The Columbus Square section of St. Louis, Missouri is a very dangerous neighborhood where violent crimes occur way too often. The area which occupies the zip codes of 63106, 63102 and 63101 not only takes up plenty of real estate in St. Louis but many of it's residents take up too much space in jails and morgues. The violent crime rate in the neighborhood is 67.75 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim of a crime in this area is 1 in 15.

18) Woodside Greenville, SC

The neighborhood of Woodside in Greenville, South Carolina is not only one of the most dangerous in America but is also one of the poorest. The list shows that the two typically go hand in hand and the section of South Carolina that occupies the 29611 zip code is a prime example. Woodside has a violent crime rate of 86.38 per 1,000 residents and there is a 1 in 12 chance of becoming a victim here. 70% of the neighborhood children live in poverty and there are more single mothers in this section than there are in 98.1% of the entire country.

19) Northeast of East Atherton and South Dort Highway in Flint, MI

The Flint, Michigan neighborhood northeast of East Atherton and South Dort Highway has a violent crime rate of 70.5 per 1,000 residents. The 48507 zip code gives its residents an alarming 1 in 14 chance to become a victim.

20) North Auburn Gresham Chicago, IL

Chicago, Illinois has a murder rate that seems to be increasing yearly and a major reason is because of the crime that happens in the North Auburn Gresham neighborhood. This neighborhood which occupies the 60620 zip code has a violent crime rate of 73.5 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in this section are 1 in 14, which is actually on the low side for many of Chicago's rougher areas. The entire south side of Chicago seems to be an evil playground that won't stop its madness until the whole city is engulfed in violence.

i know.. i'm sorry. I'm trying to fix it. I did post it as a list and it came out like that.

I'm in Baltimore, but the county not the city. Most people here know exactly when neighborhoods to avoid down to the street, but really it's not a bad place overall.

Interesting. I am from Memphis and know the areas mentioned are horrible. Also West Memphis, Arkansas is right across the bridge from downtown Memphis so it is not shocking to see it on the list.

We're really far away from any of these, from what I can read.

We are like a 1 minute drive to Saginaw, MI....but, the GOOD side of it. I will not venture over the that side. Horrible place. We live in a nice subdivision.
