Doctor's office & Insurance referrals, WWYD? (a little long, kind of a vent, sorry)

My children have been at this doctor's office for about 2 years (since I moved here from Mass. ). They have been seen there twice, for their physicals. My youngest (5 years old) sees a team of  drs at Children's hospital once a year for his cleft and they need insurance referrals.  Last year, I requested the referrals (3 of them) from this new doctors office. I called children's a week before the appt. to confirm they received it, and, they never got it. I called the drs., they apologized, and rushed the referrals. Ok, no problem.

This year, I made the appointment in July (to be seen in September).  I went IN PERSON to the dr. office July 15th and explained what happened last year. Wrote down the dr's names that needed the referrals and the fax #. They said everything was all set.  Last week, I called Children's to confirm, and, they didn't receive any referrals. I was livid.  I went IN PERSON, again, and (calmly) explained that they have not received the referrals and he can not be seen without them.  Gave them the dr's names AGAIN.  They called me later and said it was all set and they would give me a copy.  I went today to pick it up. There is only ONE of the 3 doctors on the referral, and his name is spelled wrong :(

I called them and explained that the referral is wrong. They said "they won't see him if the drs name is spelled wrong?"  I said it's not just that, there are 2 doctors missing and they won't see him without the referral.  They told me to come in and they will fix it and basically hung up on me.

My husband wants me to go in there flipping out (he says Im too calm).  I'm not the type to flip out on anyone, but, honestly my blood was boiling today. What would you do in this situation?

What can you do, if you flip out you will likely be thrown out of the office and possibly sent from the practice, so go back and wait for your corrections.

I'd get a new PCP that took my need for specialist referrals more seriously.

I wouldn't go in and "flip out". That solves nothing. Ask to speak to a supervisor or someone in charge. Let them know you are very unhappy with the way referrals have been handled.  I would also mention it to the dr. when you see him again. He may not know how his staff is dropping the ball on things like this.

This time I would go in and calmly have them fix the mistake. Then I would be searching for a new office that can/will do things correctly. I would also inform the current office after we changed why we left the practice. Talking to the office manager may help.

I really won't "flip-out".  I just don't have the guts for it :/

But, Is there always a supervisor on duty? The doctor (I heard her in the background) and nurse actually called me after the 1st time I went in July to request the referral.  The nurse confirmed the 3 doctor's names then said everything was all set.  Its just very frustrating.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to do that.  Thanks.

I don't know if there would be a supervisor present all day. I know at my dr.'s office when I've had a problem they've had a front end supervisor who was over scheduling and billing. Just call your dr.'s office and ask to speak either to a supervisor if they have one or the dr. himself.

a lot of doctors' staff members are incompetent. I know  with my doctor, they told me they accepted my insurance plan when they actually did not. They have blithering idiots in there.

Have you spoken to someone at your insurance company? Is it possible they are screwing it up? I can call ours and confirm if they have received the referral from my doctors office.

It's really frustrating :(  I wrote down the name of the doctor. My handwriting is not illegible by any means and I verbally spelled it out, I speak english clearly. They miss spelled John....Johne and the last name has 5 letters and they mangled it into 7.
