Should I cancel practice?

I'm the first time soccer coach of 4&5 year olds.

We are suppose to have practice tonight.

It is currently raining and has been raining for 2 days straight. A light steady rain, not down pour.

Should I go ahead and cancel practice? Even if it stops raining now the field won't be dry. However what 4 year old boy doesn't like playing in the mud?

If I don't cancel due to wet field should I cancel even if it is light rain?

I know when I was a kid practice/games were only canceled if it was storming. As in lightening or raining so hard you can't see.

If the field isn't going to be dry and it has rained for the past two day's?As a parent I would appreciate you canceling practice, as to not have to deal with the mess. Plus, mud and boys... injuries.

I'd cancel it due to wet fields.  If they were older I'd probably have it, but at 4/5 yrs old, nah.

There should be a policy in place by the league for a situation just like this. Or do you have a rep for soccer in your league that you can call?

Our youth sports league has a board of directors and then reps for each sport and generally canceling practice/games is up to the individual coach and if they aren't sure or aren't comfortable making the call then the rep can decide. Make sure you decide early enough to let everyone know.

Yep, I would. What is the leagues policy?

My six year old sons sports teams don't cancel unless its thundering, except tennis because its bad for the courts to run on them when wet. Playing in not ideal weather is part of playing a sport. I would have it and whoever shows up, shows up, whoever doesn't like it can stay home.

Hey leave it solely up to the coaches.
