I just heard our school does home visits for students. Why do they do this? I've never heard of this before.

I have never heard of this.

I would laugh at them if they tried to come to my  house.

Schools in areas with higher poverty do home visits to assess the living conditions to see if the parents will need help meeting their child's academic needs.

They want to get into your home and make sure you are taking care of your kid properly.   Why do you think free pre-school came to be?  To get the kids out of deadbeat/loser homes.

Ours does it. They feel that kids would be more comfortable meeting their new teacher in their own home.
