How soon will they shut off the lights?

I just sent money to my friend in Alabama. She is short on money and told me her electric bill was due on Friday. She doesn't get paid till this coming Friday. How soon would they turn off the lights? Just wondering because I've accidentally forgot to pay my cell bill and they didn't turn it off they just charged me a fee.

You usually have a 10 days after due date before you get a late notice. . So usually they will give you at least 30 days before shut off

I kinda thought they wouldn't shut it off that fast but she was really worried. I don't mind this girl has saved my life before so its the least I could do for her and her 2 kids.

Depends on the company. Some will turn it off the first business day after it was due. Others give you some time. Also, depends on if she was current or behind already. MOST electric companies send out a late notice when you miss the payment due date & that should tell if you're at risk for cut off. She should have called the electric company BEFORE close of business on Friday to make payment arrangements. I'm sure MOST companies would rather work with a customer & get paid than turn off the service.

Depends on how far behind she is and how much the bill is.

Usually at least 60 days.

its not just where you live, its the company.

In tucson, you can go a few months before they shut you off.

In our little town, you've got 30 days and thats it.  If they say you'll be shut off Friday, you'll most likely be shut off friday unless the tech in your area runs into a delay.

Up here you get 30 days to pay the bill. You aren't in danger of shut off until 30 days AFTER that. I live in CT though.

In California they wait about 2 months after a due date.
