Should she do this?

I came into my house after being gone for 5 hours and it felt way too warm to me. My first thought was the ac broke. Turns out the babysitter turned it up 5 degrees. My MIL always turns it up too.

Is it just me or is that incredibly rude or just plain odd behavior?

you're weird...

what is rude about feeling cold, thinking the kids are probably cold as well and turning up the heat a little?

I don't see anything wrong with it but its not something I would ever do.

I like to make my guests feel comfortable so no I don't think it's rude.

Yes, rude. You should never touch the thermostat at someone else's house. She could have at least asked.

If they know that they are going to be there for a long period I would rather they did that and not be freezing the whole time than suffer through it.  If they turned it down I might be a tad perturbed because of the extra cost, but even that I would overlook.
