I was meeting a friend after school Wednesday so I brought a change of clothes to work as its VERY hot. Flip flops, a purple tshirt and a pair of khaki shorts. The shorts aren't skimpy or tight or anything like that. I dress modestly. I stayed an hour past quitting time to make copies and try to get ahead. The students had been out of the school for an hour and a half at this point. There were some students around for sports, theater, or drivers ed though. I changed in the bathroom before leaving. Well apparently a parent saw me walk out in shorts and complained to the principal that it was inappropriate and unprofessional for me to be in the building wearing shorts after school even though I was literally going out the door. So now today after school, ON A FRIDAY, all the teachers have to stay after quitting time to have a consensus meeting to decide if we should be allowed to change into street clothes before leaving. This is an insane waste of teacher's time (and off the clock too) to me. I don't see what the issue is. Teachers change before stopping at the gym all the time. All the other teachers think this is stupid. Would you care if you saw your child's teacher in shorts AFTER school? These shorts go half way to my knees and fit loosely. ETA: I'm not asking to wear shorts while I am teaching. I have great AC. I just don't see why it would hurt anything to change before leaving work on my own time. Yes, the coaches wear shorts but they go outside and don't have AC in the gym. I don't blame them for wearing shorts.
ETA: I'm doing a halfday today because I had to do a doctors appointment in the morning. I have plan, study hall the first two classes so I'm not missing much. Ill update when I can.
Lol I'm featured! Awesome!
ETA: Well, the meeting is over. It took thirty minutes and was STUPID.
Here's the results:
1. Teachers (non coaching) who wish to use the schools gym or track after quitting time may wear athletic gear that meets the dress code for coaches.
2. Teachers can change into street clothes before going home that doesn't violate the student dress code but must use the restroom by the teacher parking lot and immediately leave.
3. If we attend non contracted(unpaid) events, we may wear whatever we choose as long as its appropriate for the ocassion and meets the student dress code. If we come into work in our room during our own time on days off, or on training days we can wear what we want as long as it doesn't violate the student dress code.
For those of you saying it was unprofessional, can you please explain why? It was very modest and it was an hour and half-ish after the kids left. I was literally going out the door and it should've been obvious to the parent as I was carrying my dress clothes. It took maybe two minutes to go from stall to car.
For those of you complaining about me taking a morning off for my doctors appointment, it did NOT hurt the students. I had plan, then study hall. The kids don't see me during my plan and the ISS teacher watched my study hall as he only had two ISS students.
For those of you saying I wasted the schools money, there was no sub because it was not needed.
For those of you saying I should've scheduled my appointment after school, I had no choice. I needed to see my fertility doctor due to horrible cramps I'm experiencing, which can be a serious side effect. Yes, I do have to take sick or personal days occasionally to see my fertility doctor. If you have a problem with that, I'm sorry. While I try to avoid missing days at all costs, sometimes its unavoidable. When my body is ready to go in, I have to go to my doctor. While I would love to be able to easily Conceive during a time that would be easy for work, I don't have that luxury. We have duty free lunch so I may use my phone during lunch.
