I get a call from my sister (21) and the first thing out of her mouth is "should I call the cops?" It took forever to find out why and to get the story from her. Eventually I get the gist of it, which was that my mom's husband threw a bottle of bleach at our 12yr old brother (C), and it opened and spilled all down his back and side. She said that when she got home our mom was going out the door to take the husband and an older brother to the football game, but that C was burned by the bleach and left. Sister looked and saw his skin was red and had welts where the bleach had got on him. She was scared and thought it was going to get worse, but didn't want to call for medical attention ( she doesn't drive) because she thought it would cause problems. C said that his skin was burning so I told him to get into a cool shower to try and rinse the remaining bleach off.
Just recently our mom's husband has been getting extremely aggressive and violent. He screams at them in the middle of the night, has choked, hit and thrown things at our mom. He has been told several times to leave but always comes back, and had not done anything to harm the kids at this point. My mom has 6 kids, he fathered the last two, C being one of them.
Anyways they were both scared and said they didn't want to call the cops because they didn't want to get into trouble. So I told them to get an ambulance to at least check him out (I live in another state, otherwise I would have gone there). She said she couldn't get through to 911?? and asked me to call. So I try to find a dispatch number for their town and couldn't find one, so I called their local police dept. I explained that I was in another state and that I was getting all this information from them and they really they just needed an ambulance to check C out. He said ok, he'd get an ambulance out there. Mom got home and I could hear in the background about how it was an accident, and then didn't know if it was or she was just covering for her dh again.
Well ambulance and police show up and left saying that he needs attention but can wait. Turns out that it WAS an accident. Her dh was cleaning out the car and threw the bleach out the door and it ended up hitting C. Mom saw the burn and called the doc and setup an appt for today as well as made him take a bath. C never mentioned any of that! The cop told mom that I said the dh was assaulting the boy causing welts, which I never said. So now my mom is pissed at me because I called but also thinks I was trying to get her dh arrested, and won't talk to me. The " kids" blamed everything on me, not telling her the reason why I called so that way it took the heat from them. My mom doesn't use a cell phone so I couldn't call her to find out whatwas going on, and when I tried to talk to her before the ambulance/ police got there, she wouldn't come to the phone cause she was busy... so I did try to get info and warn her.
