Do you think this is fair?

ds has chores in our house.  He is 7yrs old. Every night after dinner we clean up the kitchen.  This means:

washing (me)

drying (ds)

putting away (depends)

sanititzing counter tops and stove top, dining table and coffee table (me)

taking out garbage (ds)

Lately ds has been either getting time out right before wash up because of talking back or attitude or has been procrastinating by going super slow.

So I have told him I will not wait on him to put away the dishes, I will finish up my chores and if the dishes aren't dry to put away, I'm not doing it, he has to.

What do you think? Is that fair?

He's probably just manipulating. I think it's good that you don't let him get away with that.

Make him do his job first, THEN take his time out.  He's old enough to handle a delay and still make the connection to why he's getting time out.

I think it sounds perfectly fair. i think daily chores is a really healthy thing for kids. My dd is only four and if she is going to be difficult and fight with me about picking stuff up or doing what she is told she will get a time out as well.
