It's happened. The Glendale school district in California has hired a firm to monitor the social media of students 13 and older.

How would you feel about this?

Me, I think it's crossing a line.

Eta: I don't know how to link from mobile but I read about it on my CNN app. So if you want to see details check CNN :)

It sucks BUT if your kids don't have  FB page they have nothing to monitor

That's my job as their parent. What will they do if they find something they don't agree with?

Too much control in my opinion.

No. What those students outside of school is absolutely none of the schools business.

Nope. What if they see something they don't agree with but I think it's fine. Does their word trump mine?

I would make absolutely sure that my child's social media accounts were private to everyone but friends and family in the first place, so there would be nothing for them to see.

What my child does outside of school and school activites is none of the schools business.

Anything put on the net is considered public. If you are monitoring your kids properly and raising them properly there should be no problem. If so many parents were not falling at that they wouldn't need to do this. Also the what my kid does outside bs is moot because almost all schools have social media anti bullying rules now because you are failing to parent your kid.
