Slight spin off:

Another poster said that parents shouldn't move in with their children.

Something along the lines of  "children don't owe their parents anything".

This was regarding a post about a mother moving in with her son because of financial hardship.

Do you agree with this statement?

I owe my parents so much; from the decades of emotional support, being my cheerleader, paying for college, helping us get financially set, the oodles of money they've spent on our child . . . .

I OWE THEM.

And if they ever needed a home or my emotional support, I am there to figure that out with them.

************

EDIT: The thing is, my parents are awesome. There are so many facets of my life that I feel wouldn't have happened if I did not have their emotional and monetary support. I couldn't have done my early life on my own at all.

Those who had bad childhoods and craptastic parents.....I can 100% understand why you would feel that you don't owe your parents anything.

I owe my mom so much. She has always been there for me. I would not have made it through the last three years if it had not been for her. Even when she was hurting/grieving she has been there for me.

When the time comes, I'll be there, but I do not feel I owe them anything.

My mom, yes. But she is unfortunately decreased.

I don't own my father a damn thing. And, he'll be hard pressed to find one of his children who feels like they do.

Personally id do anything for my kids, financially, emotionally etc...but I want nothing in return from my children...but with that said... I do feel I owe my parents the world and that's because they are great parents!

That's how my husband and I feel too. I know my mom sacrificed a lot so my brothers and I never went without. I would do anything to help any of our parents. Is it ideal? No. But, at the end of the day it's family and family is priority.

I don't owe them anything. But because I love and respect them I would do anything I could to help them in anyway.
