Is it a side dish or main entree?

Baked acorn squash. What do you serve with it? And forgive me if this is stupid but some recipes say dribble with maple syrup and I really don't want to buy real maple syrup, it's expensive and it will never get eaten. Should I just omit the syrup or use the cheapo stuff?

In OUR home, that's a side dish- or snack. If I served that as an entree there would be total confusion followed by a boycott.

I figured.

But what would be good with it? What do you cook as the main course when you have that as a side?

Its a side dish. We serve ours with sausage and peppers.   As far as the maple syrup goes I wouldn't use the fake stuff. It doesn't bake off as well.

Come on now? Why follow rules? Do what you want! Some nights ill cut up fruit and say "this is dinner." Especially on days when we've been snacking or eating a lot.
