Ugh poor kiddo, she's in 2nd and its a mixture of her not paying attention in class and trying to add up too many numbers on her fingers rather than on paper and not understanding the questions the teacher was asking.

Ugh 2nd grade is kicking our ass

Try to create fun ways for her to learn the math. What type of problem are there?

I feel like my son's math this year in 2nd is too easy. They're doing place value stuff still!

Also, for a lot of people (including me) it helps to have rules or steps to follow. What kind of math is it?

Can you get her into math support at school? Our school works with every child . who needs help keeping up with grade level. They get pulled out of class once or twice a week to work with a math specialist either solo or with one other child.

My daughter is the same way. Make it fun. We use pennies to count and she gets to keep them when she is done. Soon I will be ending this though to see if she understands it. We have had no issues since I showed her with the pennies though :)

She had to draw a graph and then the teacher had math word problems and she had to write out the number sentence as well as the answer.

The problem is the teacher is teaching them that how many more footballs than volleyballs means subtraction and not addition and she can't seem to grasp that. More to her means addition period.
