My 3 year old is grounded for the night!

Yes I said 3 year old! She acted up horribly at the store today. When I finally got her in the car I told her she was grounded tonight. When we got home she had a choice, she could sit on her bed and read all night, or sit in the kitchen, while I cooked, and work on her colors, numbers, and letters. No tv. No playing with toys. Learning, dinner, bath, bed. She's got to learn one way or another to behave herself. Next time she acts out I'm going to start taking toys away.

It's after 8pm here...It could be that she's tired, why isn't she in bed?

Good for you?  Not sure what type of response one wants for this.....

I'm all for enforcing rules and respect but for me the punishment always fits the crime and is a natural consequense.  I'm not sure a 3-year old is getting much out an entire evening of "time out" for poor behavior earlier in the day but, hey, it's your deal and I have little limited info.

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day!

I'm all for discipline, but I think you're doing her a disservice by making reading and learning a punishment.

I would've sent her to bed early.

Jeez, my 11 and 7 year olds have an 8pm bedtime. She needs to be in bed at 7.

My 10 and 7 year go to bed at 8. When they were 3, they were in bed by 6:30-7:00

Sounds like a good plan of action to me, as a fellow parent of a three year old. Hope it works out for you.
