Dog owners.... Come in & help me.

I have a mixed dog.... He is a coon hound and boxer.

He is only 12 weeks old.

He is protective over the kids.
Would you view that as a problem?

I am worried that someone may get bit in the future.
If SO is using a stern voice with our son, Samson gets in the middle and barks.
If the neighbor kids come running up, Samson gets in the middle of them and kids, he will growl and barks. Yet when they actually get up to us he just wants to play.

My DD is 5 and my son is 1 1/2.

Give me your honest opinions.
I am a SAHM and I try training the dog but as we all know it takes time. Lol.

Yes it will escalate.. Take the dog to obedience school now and nip it in the bud.

It could cause problems because he is seeing himself as the alpha, protecting his pack (the kids). He needs to be taught that you and your husband are the alphas. It is good that he is protective of the kids but my dog growing up bit three of our friends because of that. Obedience training for him, stat.

I would not view it as a bad thing but id definitely make sure to get him trained so you can control him and not have future problems.

Correct him every time he does it. Look at getting him obedience training.

Yes he needs obedience school and socialization. Do not wait on this. You cannot have him become a liability and aggressive. He needs some alpha training so he understands that you are the leader of the pack and he doesn't need to be. :)

Thank you.

His behavior escalating is definitely not something I want.

There are a few obedience schools here.... When looking for one is there anything I should look for in particular?

Definitely take him to obedience school now. I'm not saying it will escalate but you never know. Dogs are pack animals and he sees the kids as pack mates. He also sounds like an alpha male. Alphas can be a little harder to train. You just have to show dominance as pack leader. That doesn't mean you have to be mean to him, just more firm in your commands.

Good luck! He's beautiful!!
