Nope, and the crime statistics back that up
The internet and 24/7 media just brought nationwide attention to stories that used to stay local

Nope! Proportionally, there were just as many rapists, murderers, and animal fuckers 50 years ago as there are today.

Not even close. Of course there are dangerous things and people but there have always been. We're more aware of the dangers surrounding us these days though.

no, I think crime is more publicized now though.

I do think school shootings is more of a worry though.

When I was a kid, in the late 60's and 70's... you had no idea who the "creepers" were. Now, they have to register, and notifications are sent when they're released from prison, etc... You know which houses they live in, and have pictures of what they look like. 

The reason it seems like abductions happen more frequently now is that the information is spread far and wide almost immediately. Back then, when a kid went missing, it was only ever discussed on a local basis.
