Today I went to my doctor's appointment for a physical. My boyfriend came in with me and the nurse asked him to stay in the waiting room after finding out we were not married. I was a bit offended. Why does it matter that were not married?

Doctor patient confidential reasons. But if you wanted him there you have a right for him to be there

Odd. My SO and I won't ever marry, it's not something we're even remotely interested in. With that said, he's allowed wherever I am when it comes to my health. He has been there for doctor appointments, hospital stays, births, you name it. I'd look into it and see if that's a policy there or just a rude nurse.

HIPPA? Doctor/Patient confidentiality? A policy the office has?
If you want to know, you should have asked.

Dh was never asked to leave the room, I was asked if I wanted him there, but he was never asked to leave.
