Exactly why my 13yo is not allowed to have a facebook. This is suppossed to be a TEENAGE page. Does this outrage anyone else?

**Warning: Facebook page contains inappropriate pics**

What ridiculous is having a 9yo having a FB account.
Kids need to stay kids.
Now if they had a website exclusively for kids and their families with extremely guidelines then that's ok.
But imo, a kid shouldn't even be on FB at all for no reason.

I have a facebook, it's not a need. But I still have one, lol.

We're all on here. It's not a need, yet here we are.

Thats a ridiculous line to draw.

Quoting couture-mommy:

Point is, a 9yo shouldn't have a FB.

And since its not a need... that should be enough.

Imo obviously

Quoting christina0607:

need? Does anyone "need" a facebook, lol? I don't think I said that.

Quoting couture-mommy:

Why did a 9yo need a facebook?

I wish the facebook thing stayed for people in college.

Quoting christina0607:

Thats why you don't let your child have a facebook? You don't feel you could successfully monitor what they're doing?

My 13yo has had a facebook since she was 9. I just parent her along the way, so it's not an issue for us.

Outrage, no. Kids don't need facebook to look up pictures of half naked/naked women. That's why its important to monitor their activity.

Internet safety is a huge issue for ADULTS. Now take a 9 year old who lacks maturity and understanding - do you really think they're equipped to deal with thematic and safety issues of being "online" at that age? I don't.

No one NEEDS Facebook, but pre-pubescent kids need to be protected FROM Facebook. How do you not understand that distinction? It's not like she was saying your kid can't eat dinner and then have dessert as a treat....she's saying your 9 year old shouldn't have a Facebook account because it's dangerous.

Having a facebook doesn't turn a 9yo into an adult. It's not Zoltar(that might go over your head).

Facebook isn't evil, I have to wonder what you use facebook for that have such a ridiculous view.

If your son is 13 he likely already has the idea to look at porn, lol.  When I ws growing you boys used to "borrow" their Mom's sears catalogue for the underwear section.  The internet didn't start it.

Teach our son to value and respect women so he doesn't end up like a lot of the commenters on that page.

Quoting Double.Life:

It's a page that says "Teens swag" and it's full of half naked porn star type women. It makes me mad, becasuse if my lil 13 year old just thought it was a page for teenagers....he'd probably go to the page. And once he got there, well c'mon now, he's a teenage boy. Need I say more? It would probably give him the idea to watch porn.

Quoting 2ArfarasMom:

Well that's not clicky for me but I don't see why a teen needs Facebook anyway. I don't have one. It's a chance for pedophiles to try to find a victim, place for bullies to do what they do... I just don't think that Facebook is a necessity

My kids have had no problem with facebook. It it's somehting your children can't handle then don't let them use it. Seems pretty simple.

He's a hormone filled teenage boy. He doesn't need anything to give him the idea of watching porn. He's going to think about sex no matter what he looks at.

I use Facebook for what its intended for.. reconnecting with people from highschool, college, and family.
But I stand with my comment.
We parent differently, that's fine.
Doesn't make either of us horrible mothers, just different parenting styles
