Anyone know how a library works? I have an ASAP question but they are closed already

So, DD and i checked out some books several months ago, but they got lost.

we owe about 70 right now.

DD Finally found them burried in her room.

If we return them, do we still pay the fee? or will that take care of it?

see if your library waves all fines at Christmas if you return your books with a canned good for each book and keep til then if they do. Our library does no matter how high the fee.

You have to pay the fee

$70? That's ridiculous. Our library has a cap. You may be able to talk to them and negotiate.

if it is like our local middle school, you have one calendar year to find & or return books for the refund

You will still have to pay the fees/fines. Does your library offer an amnesty week?  If they do you can turn the books in then and avoid the fees. So that you don't have to go through this again, designate a spot in your home where all library books go when not being read.

There may still be fines to pay but they will be higher if the books are not returned.

It depends on your library.  Here if you return the books no matter how much the fees are, they don't charge you the fees.  As long as the books are in good condition.

You'll still have to pay the fee. If you're really nice, they might be able to cut some of the fine down. Or they could just ask you to pay the cover price of the books and then you keep them. Different libraries do it differently though.

Depends on the fee. You will probably have to pay late charges but not the costs of the books.

You can only be charged what the books were worth (usually way less than the daily late fee). Then once you return the books, there should be just a nominal fee to pay. ASK what the least amount you can pay and still check out books. Also ask i they have a week where all fees are waived.
