i have a younger by 2 years brother and by 4 years sister.

when i was 10 years old i was watching both of them from 7-5.

i was expected to do the majority of the cleaning, and have dinner prepped and ready to go, or even completely cooked...depending on what it was.

i helped with baths, homework, made breakfast which was usually cereal, and lunch.

now people can't even leave their 10 year olds at the house while they run up to the store or something.

Your mom and dad were terrible making you parent the other kids.  No child at 10 should be acting like the adult in the house.  I bet you were not as good at everything as you think you were.  No 10 year old is equipped to do it all.

this is true, i would also take them with me, walking, 2 miles each way to the thrifty nickle if we could scrape up couch change to go buy some candy or pop.

Crime is at an all time low actually especially crimes against children.  Stop watching the sensationalized news.

I leave my 11year olds.
I have to say though that your childhood sounds sad. I'm sorry your parents did that to you.
