hes epleptic and has a special diet to control it...

I think there is a pro and con to this.. pro- he can go out trick or treating with his friends,
Con- other kids may get jealous and might not get why he got toys and they didn''t ... \

At 8 his friends who have been around understand that he can not have candy and should be fine with it. Kids are more understanding about this than adults give them credit for.

this is a very sweet gesture that this man is doing for his son. The main concern wouldn't be for Fletcher's friends, if their parents saw that as a concern then they should trick or treat without him. Then again if my child was friends with him, I would explain the situation that while they might not get a toy, he doesn't get to have candy like them. I see this as a pro.

I think that is perfectly acceptable and a great way for the child to participate without making it hard on the people passing out candy.

To me its a win win.

No I think its a bit too much to expect of others unless they are friends.
My son can't have food coloring or food additives. We let him go trick or treating for the fun of it.
We then have him trade his candy for a toy he would like.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was more than one angry bird out trick or treating.

I think its sweet. It still allows the child to have the fun of trick or treating. Its not like the dad is asking them to buy toys instead.
