My confession: I'll quit my job if I can't get Halloween off.

I have a set schedule that I rearranged a couple of months ago to accomodate the new girls school schedule. (our boss works 100% on seniority, if I hadn't agreed to the change, it wouldn't have happened.) Because of this change, I now work on Thursdays. I spoke with new girl three weeks ago and asked her to switch days with me the week of Halloween, so I could take my kids trick-or-treating. She agreed as lomg as I promised to bring them in their costumes to see her. No problem.

She sent me a text today "Hey, something came up. I can't work Halloween."

I have missed Easter and Mothers Day this year and with my Thursday schedule, I'm also slated to work Thanksgiving. I will not miss a holiday I already told my kid's I'd be present for.

I'll be having a conversation with my boss tomorrow, but he's too lax to really care as long as someone is there. I figured it out, then she cancelled. I have no other options. I need this job, but I need to be with my kids.

Rock and a hard place. That's my confession.

You are stupid if you quit your job just because you are going to miss Halloween.

Personally I would think it would be a dumb move to quit, what do you want one day with your kids or money to support those same kids. I would explain to the boss how you switched schedules, you work all the holidays and she said she would do it and now won't and see what he says.

I would start looking for other work, but in the meantime quitting your job over not getting to trick or treat with your kids is foolish without back up employment.

Just think about it before you quit.

They would. My husband makes enough for us to survive, barely, but kind of do-able.

That sucks... but I'm sure your kids would rather have food on the table and a roof over their head than candy. Yes missing holidays sucks... but providing for your family is much more important. Do something special to celebrate another day.

You'd be better off keeping this job and looking for a new one in the meantime, then :)
