How can I get 3 year old son (almost 4) to fall asleep by himself. My husband and I have always laid with him to go to sleep. We didn't mind it as he was young, we actually enjoyed it. We are both working parents and enjoyed any time we had with him. But now that he's getting older, we would like him to fall asleep by himself. Once he's asleep, he's fine and stays asleep. It's the falling asleep by himself that we need help with

toddler boy I lay with my kids too.  I suggest that after you have laid in there for a while, start making him stay laying down and being still and more quiet.  Also making him lay still and on his stomach, almost always works.

Um he's only 3.... don't you read to him everynight or tell a story?

I'll be doing this until my child tells me they don't want me to anymore.

I wouldn't mind laying with him if he didn't cry for 30 mins or longer because he doesn't want to go to sleep : /

Discuss with him a bed time routine and stick to it.

Start with mommy staying for 30 mins

Thenbuild up the excitement for mommy staying for 15 mins

Then tell him mommy will read him a book turn off the lights, sing him a song then you're gone
