Where does your hospital make you go?

When you are in labor do you go to labor & delivery or do you go to the ER?

I can not believe a hospital would require you to go into the ER, check in there & wait for triage to go from there.

EDIT: I'm not talking about having to go through the ER to get up to L&D, to sign in real quick fill out a form & then go up.

I was talking about a hospital that made you sit in the ER & wait to get triaged before going to L&D.  This could take quite some time in most ER's, I just can't imagine this happening anywhere.

I get going through the ER bc the doors are closer, bc they are the only doors, bc registration is there so you fill out forms & then get sent up.

 Me too.

I couldn't imagine sitting in my ER waiting for triage to get to me!  Makes no sense to me.

I'm just trying to find out how true this is since another mom is claiming you go through the ER & have to wait til they get to you to go up to L&D.  I have never heard of that, ever.

I would've had my 2nd baby in the ER if I had to wait!

Exactly, but you didn't have to wait in the ER. Our's is the same way.  Well it wasn't w/my first then they redid things & ER doors were quicker to L&D.

I work in a women's hospital, so we have a triage unit and then mom's go to LDR from there. Triage is 10 beds though, you are seen pretty quickly.

Here, it depends on how many weeks you are. After 12 weeks, you go straight up to L&D.
