leaving kids in the car

I ran in to get toilet paper at Walgreens. I live in a decent town and feel comfortable leaving my kids in the car to run in. my oldest is almost eight. anyway, somehow my car alarm went off I ran outside (I was in line getting ready to check out) to see what the problem was (she had tried to roll down the window) and some crazy woman starts yelling at me telling me I'm a horrible mother and threatening to call the police. I tell her to go ahead and I take my kids in the store, buy my tp and leave.

yeah, I probably shouldn't have left them out there and now I'm waiting at home for the police. happy fucking Sunday.

Leaving them in the car wasn't the greatest idea. Safe town or not, anything could happen.

She's 8. That woman should have minded her damn business. But why weren't the windows already cracked?

Sorry mama, 8 is still a bit young in my opinion too.

IMO 8 is old enough to stay in the car while you run in.  I wouldn't worry about what someone else thinks about your parenting unless it is the children's father.  Car alarm could have gone off with a teenager to

Give one good reason.

And no, "someone could have abducted them" is not a good reason because it's far too rare an occurrence.  Those kids were thousands of times more likely to be harmed walking through the parking lot into the store than they were in the car for a matter of a few minutes.

Its not something we would do or allow. The risks are too high.
