The DIRT CHEAP way to spice up plain WIC canned pinto beans

I add 1 TBSP of taco seasoning powder (about $1 or less) to one 16oz can of drained pinto beans.  They taste  like the Ranch Style Beans that are more costly and not available on WIC here.  One  1.5 OZ packet will season over 4 cans this way.  If anyone has a good recipe for turning canned kidney beans into Pork N Beans or Bush's Baked beans, please share.  Do you have any items that you get on WIC that you find yourself not using/donating?  Perhaps you have some other recipes or ideas for WIC ingredient-based dishes?

*Some asked for the food list:

  • Milk and Milk Alternatives
  • Cheese
  • Whole Grains
  • Fruits – Fresh, Frozen, and Canned
  • Vegetables – Fresh, Frozen, and Canned
  • Eggs, Peanut, Butter, and Dry Beans, Peas, and Lentils
  • Canned Beans
  • Cereal
  • Juice
  • Infant Foods
  • Fish (Exclusive BFing moms only)

Or you could use a couple shots of tabasco. That stuff is super yummy and the big bottle is 4 bucks and will last a normal person about six months. They only last about three weeks in my house though.

Not on wic, but thought I would point that out.

I make my own taco seasoning. I make refried beans and vegetarian chili with pinto beans. Yum!

I had a black bean burger from a local restaurant a few weeks ago that was AWESOME. It was charbroiled and had such a good flavor. I wish I knew how to make them myself.

I use black beans in one recipe almost every day...I make wraps with black beans, fresh pico, and some shredded cheese.
