Just thought I would let you all know that the IRS has announced a delay for electronic filing. They expect to start accepting electronic returns by January 28th but no later than February 4th.

They say it is due to the government shutdown but there was a delay last year too.

That's why it's important to not rely on your refund for bills or to spend it before it's in your pocket.

I try to break as close to even as possible each year anyhow.

Oh well , most times we aren't fully ready until April anyway and this year we have to factor in a home purchase.

Doesn't affect us we usually owe.  If there is another shut down there will be even a longer wait to file.  I hope those who rely on the EIC to fund the rest of their year are prepared to wait a bit to collect that money.

I highly doubt it'll sink in for some, sadly.

There was quite a delay last year.

I'm already screwed as an ISC.  I had to use last year's tax money to move out of an unsafe house the landlord wouldn't fix, so I have back taxes plus this year's taxes that will be due.  I ended up getting into that money to buy groceries.  That saying about being taxed to death is definitely true.

No later than February 4th? What? I don't get that.....everyone is supposed to file by February 4th? No. That just doesn't make sense.
