Finally figured it out!

So my 9y/o DD has trouble talking to us when she is in trouble. She breaks down in tears and doesn't talk about what she thinks she did wrong. Yelling doesn't work she just fazes out on you. So tried something new. Everyone stopped talking all together and I made her write! She couldn't come out of her room until she wrote down  what she did wrong, if she thinks her punishment is fair and how she is going to try and fix the situation. I must say it was very productive! I got a page and a half from her and she said its easier for her to write things down than to talk about them. Ok so new tactic. To me, writing is still a form of communication and as long as she's willing to still communicate with us I'm all for it!!

good

GOOD IDEA--yeah my almost 6 yr old gets upset but then doesnt want to say why, so I hear her out, give my point of view and ask what she prefers, etc.

I am too..If I'm crying really hard I actually make sounds like I'm hyperventilating. I think I can see where she gets it from LOL

Usually I don't like writing as a punishment, but in this case it's perfect!

I hope it helps all around.
