Cold From Hell.

I need some advise!! There's a cold going around and its not a pleasant one! I can't go 5 minutes without a coughing fit and I've thrown up several times because of coughing so bad. I've tried vicks, multi cough, congestion, etc meds and emergency C to try and kick this cold. I've been sick more than a week and it just gets worse and worse. I haven't slept in days because if I lay down thats when I end up puking because I get so congested.

I can get myself uncongested with a hot shower and vicks but 2 minutes after the shower I'm completely congested again like I did nothing. I've coughed, sneezed and puked up so much of the congested but it just keeps coming and coming! I'm at my wits end! I need suggestions what else could I use to speed up this process because I can't take this anymore. The other cold put me down for a week. This one is working on over a week and there was only a 2-3 day buffer between them. My family is tired of mommy being out of order and my poor DH is at his wits end with picking up all the slack though he doesn't want me touching anything because our son and him have yet to catch this and I'm being escorted to our room to keep it contained.

I'm treated like the infected. Help!

Sounds like it could be more than just a cold. You probably need to see your doctor to get an antibiotic or something. You could have walking pneumonia, the way you are describing it.

I had to get a presciption cough syrup last year after getting sick with something that literally had me coughing almost nonstop. It helped a little, and made me get some sleep at night. Dh also swears by his hot toddy.

Wouldn't I have a fever with that? I haven't had a fever at all.

Take benadryl and pseudoephedrine to dry up the congestion.

Is there something that has both in it? Or just buy both?

Not always. I had it once for almost 2 months, and didn't run a fever the whole time. Just coughed so much, my ribs felt like I'd been hit by the entire defensive line of the Dallas Cowboys.

I had some hot tea last night and I felt great while I was drinking it. But after it all just came right back. I can't even understand how someone could produce this much congestion! I've used 2 full boxes (the big ones) of tissues since Monday. I'm 1/3 through a third.

I usually just buy both and take them throughout the day. During the day, I only take half a dose of the benadryl (1 pill) since it makes you sleepy, but if you're that sick, go ahead and take the full dose of both and get some rest. They both dry you out so drink plenty of fluids.

I know its not that thankfully! I used to get that all the time. This is different. Cough is purely from movement of crap in my head.
