It's based on income and a qualifying disability. Apply online and they will set up an appointment.

I receive social security disability for an illness. The amount is determined based on how much you paid into the system when you were working. $300 seems awfully low. If you have worked for years prior to your disability then you should receive more. Did you know that you get paid SSD for each of your children too?

I'm a single mother of 2 special needs boys. I receive $988 a month in SSI. My boys receive about $620 a month in SSI and I added theirs together so it's about $310 each. Plus I get $593 a month child support.
Your SSI will all depend on the income you get.
Good Luck. Hugs!
