I just got a phone call the no mother wants. My daughter turned 18 on thursday. I was planning to go spend the weekend with her but unfortunately fell down the stairs and broke my ankle so I missed my flight. She was disappointed that I couldnt make it but decided to go on a mini roadtrip with her friends. Well while she was there she met a guy and they hit it off....they went and got married. At first I thought she was joking...she has been in the "Being single is much more fun" phase since she went to school and always talks about how she doesnt want to be committed right now....well I guess that went out the window.
I am still in shock. I called and asked her friends if it was true they all said yes. My daughter says it was love at first sight and she knew he would be the one she would spend the rest of her life with. They met on Thursday, went it got the license and all that friday, and got married on saturday.
I cant help but feel disappointed. It would be a little bit better if she had at least known and dated a guy for awhile before getting married right after she turned 18...but the fact that they had JUST met makes it pretty bad. She knows nothing about it. She didnt even know where he was from (just where he goes to school in the same state as her) or any other question I asked. I cant help feel that this is a really bad situation and I dont know many 18 year old guys who would just jump right into a marriage. I am just so shocked...i just feel like a failure and that it was my fault because I didnt get to see her and she rebelled. She said that isnt what happened but I still feel it is my fault.
