Oh children :(

DH and I went to our niece's birthday party yesterday. DH's cousin and wife brought their kids (the oldest being 9) and we were discussing the kids. I mentioned DD1 (4) was hoping to get into Girl Scouts next year when she starts Kindergarten. DH's cousin said his oldest boy (the 9 year old) was in Boy Scouts and enjoyed it but recently quit. I asked him "He quit? Was he not having fun?" and he said "No he enjoyed it. He quit because they allow gay kids in Scouts now". I looked at him like he had 3 heads and he said "Hey. He's the one that said he didn't want to be around other little boys who liked little boys"

I just dropped it but damn, that made me so sad. He's 9 and already slightly homophobic to the point that he would quit something he enjoyed because gay boys could join. Sadness :(

That's shit parenting and the reason that hate spans generations. If my kids even suggested that they wanted to quit something for a reason like that, there would be a major conversation about it.

I agree! This is how hate spans generations but honestly, I NEVER expected that from DH's cousins! Neither of them is exactly open about homophobia so I never really considered they would be homophobic, y'know? But I suppose it takes all kinds!

That is sad. He picked it up from somewhere. We would have a deep convo about it...not just let him quit.

We don't do girl scouts for that reason and because they support the baby murdering planned parent hood. We do American heritage girls instead
