I check my daughter's grades online.

She forgot to take her homework yesterday but her teacher must have let her do it at recess because she got a 100 on it. All of her other assignments in this one class have been A's and two B's.

Well they had a unit test today (that she didn't tell me about) so I don't know if she studied but she got a F on it

And just like that her overall grade went from a 91 to a 45.

That test alone was worth 55% of her grade. The other stuff was only worth15%.

Middle school is not her strong point and she's having a very hard time adjusting to it.

But. Yikes.

Teacher emailed me back. She didn't fail it. She got a 77.5. The way it computed grades was wrong. Instead of it being worth 100 points; it is only worth 45. She got 31 points. Which equals out to a 77.5

It is still worth 55% of her grade so her overall grade is now a 81 B.

it is not right to make any one project worth 55% o a grade especially in middle school!! And it is for just this reason!!

If she makes it that far. j/k

At this point I don't know if shed going to pass. She left elementary with A's and B's and this year has kicked her ass from the beginning.

Does she have a lot of anxiety about tests? My sister did all through school and no matter how hard she studied and how well done her homework was she would forget everything at test time. We had a really amazing teacher who would take time out of her lunch period and sit and do my sister's tests verbally. It really helped her to talk what she knew instead of writing it and the teacher would write and grade what she was saying.

I agree. But at the bottom of the grade book it shows what the breakdown total worth is.

That test was 55% the other assignments were 15%

Yesterday her overall class grade was 91%; today because of that test it is 45%

You need to step in now. Get a conference with her teachers. See what can be done to help her. There is still time to fix the downward spiral.
