I'm just surprised by how many said that they would never say "shut up" or that they see it as a horrible phrase. I just personally don't see the big deal. "Shut up" is a normal phrase in my vocabulary. I say it all the time. When I can't believe someone is serious, when I'm asking nicely ("please, shut UP"), when I've had enough of a conversation, you name it.
