Our neighborhood has security for ToT

This year our HOA decided to hire a private security firm to help control the trick or treaters.
Last year we had a bunch of children come from other towns, which was fine, but they did ALOT of damage because they refused to walk on sidewalks and instead ran through gardens.
The next morning there were flowers completely trampled, bushes and newly started trees destroyed and rose bushes town apart.
We had a choice to either shut down our neighborhood to only residents or to find some way to control the children (and adults!) who wouldn't listen to us when we asked them to use the walkways.
The security will be patrolling and enforcing side walk walking and if someone decides to not follow directions they, and their entire party, will be escorted out of the neighborhood.
It cost me a few hundred dollars to repair the damage last year. I really hope this works or next year they won't be welcome.

Have you ever had property destroyed by trick or treaters?

Do you live in a gated community?

I think it's bad manners when kids walk through people's yards.

No but it is an enclosed community in that there is only one way in or out.

Me too! Every child in the neighborhood is taught from a young age to use the walk ways.
It was so frustrating last year when I would ask the kids and parents to please use my walk ways and they completely ignored me and went through the garden.

We don't get trick or treaters where I live. We're too far out in the country. When we go trick or treating I do make my kids stay on the sidewalk/driveway and make sure they absolutely do not walk on the grass/flowers.

I would have been yelling at them, its expensive to keep a good looking yard LOL

Where I am from, we have great respect for each other, our property and mother nature. I have never had anything destroyed by trick or treaters.

As much as I would rather they didn't walk on the grass, the part that bothered the neighbors and me is when they stomped on flowers and plant.
