Must be nice

I hate when people respond to with "must be nice"

I have a family member who consistently responds with that on Facebook on anyone's status or pics regarding things like vacations, tech toys, etc...

Must be nice? Like in a sarcastic way or is she trying to convince herself to be nice?

That phrase never comes out sounding good. They should just refrain from posting anything.

May I ask why?

To me it comes across as snarky.

To me I've tried to picture or being said nicely but I don't see how.

This same person also asked if I won the lottery when I posted a picture of my Dyson when I got it.

What is the passive aggressive meaning to that phrase?

To me it sounds that way because it seems snarky.

Like why not opt for " that's so awesome"

I don't get it...if you're face to face maybe it's hard to pretend to be happy for someone, but online you have more time to respond, or can make a snide remark out loud for only yourself to hear and then can still type something nicer.

If it was me, I'd say something along the line so of

"Maybe you don't realize how your comments come across but they are snarky and passive aggressive. I'd rather not read your comments if you are intending for them to be rude. "
