If you have a child with adhd, odd, bipolar, mood disorder ect... mental illness and he/ she gets ssi how hard was it? Did you have to hire a lawyer?

Thank you

update

I just got off the phone scheduling an appointment and they said i need the last 3 years income. our income has changed within the past 3 years. our income in 2010 was $100K, 2011 it was $26K and in 2012 it was $10k and this year it is higher. closer to $37k.

I guess i will have to contact the IRS to get a copy of our tax return for the past 3 years now. I do our taxes on turbo tax and don't have a printer to print them out.

My son has autism.  His social worker through EI helped us get it for him.  It took over 6 months and he had to go to many drs and have many tests run, and now every year we have to re-submit to prove that his medical costs and disability inhibit him from having a "normal" life.  Meaning there has to be a certain percentage of delay.

My friends son has ADHD and ODD. It took about 4-6 months to get approved.

It would be easier for you to get a job because those disorders don't need SSI!

My son was in therapy since he was 2. I didn't file for him until he was 4 almost 5. It took only a month and a half because everything from 2 on was documented. He had multiple drs and therapist proving that his autism is moderate to severe. So he has autism (moderate to severe) took only 1 month and a half to get him approved. Oh after the diagnosis and approval, we found out he had adhd.

My DS is on SSI ( Autsim )   I had all my paperwork together and whatever visits to Drs whether it was of the State or my DS's Doctors, and in 3 weeks I a check was in the mail.
