Is it rude to ask guests to remove their shoes at the door?

I am watching the Today show and this is a question they asked viewers. I tell my guests to remove shoes because I have small kids that make the floor their home. I don't want dirty shoes all over my house. I don't think it's rude at all and I think the guest should have to respect the household they're visiting. What do you think? Rude or not?

I don't think so. I do, I don't like to wear shoes. If I see a place where shoes are collected, I usually automatically take them off and put them there.

I dont  find it rude, I do find it rude to not have a box of slippers to offer guests, a pair of slippers if they choose.

I think it's rude for people to assume they can just walk all over your house in their dirty shoes covered in who knows what they've stepped in recently. JMO. When I go to someone else's house, I assume it's shoes off unless they specifically tell me otherwise.

I think it is rude and don't ask guests to remove shoes. That said, I don't get a whole lot of guests and most just do it anyway. I think removing shoes in someones house is becomong the norm.
