ODD is real

why do some of you seem to think it isn't real?

I don't understand why you don't think it is real?

I understand a lot of you may not understand it and if you have never dealt with i understand why you can believe it is only a bad kids but not all of the kids with this disorder are bad kids. they have behavior and emotional disorder. at times they can be the sweetest, most respectful, compassioniate child you could ever meet and then the next, a switch will is turned and they change completely. It could be something simply that cause the change but because of the disorder, they haven't quit learn to control it yet. It can be done but it take time and love and patience to do so.

SO without using all the hatred toward it, just explain why you feel that it is a fake disorder?

ODD is oppositional defiant disorder.

edit:

read what is highlighted in red. while those other may be factors in ODD so are other thing. so no it isn't always the parenting that causes ODD.

There's no known clear cause of oppositional defiant disorder. Contributing causes may be a combination of inherited and environmental factors, including:

  • A child's natural disposition
  • Limitations or developmental delays in a child's ability to process thoughts and feelings
  • Lack of supervision
  • Inconsistent or harsh discipline
  • Abuse or neglect
  • An imbalance of certain brain chemicals, such as serotonin

I think it's real ,I also think some parents use it as an excuse to their kids being brats.

I had my odd neice for a weekend, she was an angel for me because I have rules and am consistent.

The problem was the mother, I still Don't believe in odd at least in her case.

I've honestly never heard of it before a few weeks ago. When was this disorder invented? I get that that sounds rude but I'm genuinely curious. When did doctors decide that certain behaviors equal ODD?

Highs and lows sound more like Bi-Polar. ODD is a made up RX for parents too lazy to discipline their children.

I don't believe it's real because I believe that these kids do very well with rules and order. I've seen it first hand.
