5 out 7 of our kids ware glasses. And wouldn't you know it all 5 of them broke there glasses with in 2 weeks. I was thinking it was going to cost us about $1000 for them. But I found a website and I got all 5 for a little over $100.

I don't consider those unexpected bills. I consider those unexpected events.

Sometimes you will have a surprise, a sick pet or child, an accident. People can't plan on those things. We just make sure to save so we can pay them.

Quoting Ali5683:

Nothing. I don't get surprise bills. If you do, you should probably seriously consider re-evaluating how you spend your money!

Took my child to a specialist after waiting months for an appointment.  Covered by insurance, or so I thought.  He decides he wants to balance bill it.  While he and our insurance company are fighting it out, he has it sent to collections last month.  Insurance claims they paid it and the doctors sign an agreement to accept what insurance pays, so I don't know...

No surprises here. Last month we had the normal halloween costumes, winter coats and filling the heating oil (all expected though)

And just this weekend we had our sons birthday party (again expected) so while they were not part of our "normal bills" they were expected and we prepared for them.

Our last unexpected bill was probably about 4 months ago, a vet bill but we were able to pay it without an issue.

Haven't had any surprises recently (knock on wood!), but we keep our "expected" expenses under 1/4 of our income, so we can handle emergencies fairly easily

Not so much a surprise expense because I knew it was coming just not exactly when. My son is a SR this year and had to order his cap/gown and announcements for graduation.
