Barely gifts for the kids, but buying stuff for you and dh?!

I know someone who is having a rough time getting gifts for her kids this year. She was telling me about the amount if money she has spent on her and her dh for Christmas. She said it's been a rough year and she shouldn't have to suffer too. She didn't get a birthday gift this year because of the no job situation since this summer. What do you think?

Meaning she shouldn't have to suffer the way her kids are suffering?

My hubby and myself hardly ever exchange presents to  each other. We got our kids each one gift and they get gifts for their birthdays/

Today was my birthday, but we have two kids that had a birthday and one is coming up so instead of getting me a gift we bought theirs.

I know my hubby cares for me. It is my birthday so he took over the house and the kids so I could do things  for myself. Like take a hot bath and read. I also got to have a nap. It was a great day.

They can do what they want but we always get the kids more than me and dh. And we are happy with that.

I hate to tell you but where is it written in stone that kids will SUFFER if they don't have everything they want for Christmas? Where is it written that they HAVE to get anything? What if what the parents are getting are things that they NEED, for work, for the house? Why do their needs not matter, but the kids MUST have more toys? Also, if it doesn't affect you, it's not your business.

She's probably gonna sign up the kids for a charity program and pass on.the responsibility, since she feels so entitled to a gift for herself
