It drives me crazy when people say that their kids ( ages newborn -3) go to "school" IT IS NOT SCHOOL its is daycare. I am sure your kids are being treated well & all that good stuff but it is not school. Does saying that make you feel better about other people caring for your children all day? This does not include children that go to preschool or a learning center. Just regular old daycare.

I disagree with you. In the US, public school starts at age 5 for Kindergarten. Before then daycares are welcome to name themselves Le Snobby Academy for gifted kids, but the reality is they are a daycare. A daycare with a lesson plan is a daycare. Welfare pre-k is a daycare. The $10,000 per day daycare is still a daycare. Daycare by any name is daycare.

If a child is in daycare he is learning. Whether its how to socialize, how to spend time away from mommy, or counting, learning how to use toys.. All these things are learning experiences for a fresh new mind.

Why not call it school? It allows the child to get used to the very idea of school.

I always heard people say that to make the transition to school easier on their kids...why do you care so much?

I have worked in child development centers in different states, some nationally accredited and some state accredited.  They are "daycares".  The nationally accredited ones are amazing, kids learn so much and the ones I worked in had so much structure you rarely had a kid throwing a fit because they knew the routine of the day and knew what was acceptable and what was not acceptable.  But, at the end of the day it is still a daycare.
