Dd is 18 and goes to community college so she still lives with us. Lately she started locking her door. I asked why and she said because whenever we knock we don't wait for her to say come in we just knock and walk. Which is true but it's because I don't feel like I need a formal invitation in to a room in my own house! I was pretty pissed when she told me that but dh APOLIGIZED and said she was right and told me she has a point and we shouldn't do that anymore.

I feel very disrespected. What do you think?

She's an adult now, let her have her privacy.

On one hand it is your house, on the other she is 18 and deserves the courtesy of you waiting till she says come in.

I agree with her. I would wait for my dd to say come on after I knock. It's just being courteous

I think that she is old enough to be entitled to privacy.

Your comment that "it's a room in your house" is exactly the problem.

Why do you believe she shouldn't have any privacy?

She's an adult, let her be.  There are some things you probably don't want to be walking in on.

As long as a boy isn't involved I don't think its an unreasonable request.... what of she's masturbating or something? Lol

She should be able to have a bit of privacy. She is 18. Not 8. It may be a room in your house but it is her own personal space.
