So the 15-20 people you've encountered is a good enough analytical base for the millions of people in food service jobs?

Quoting Anonymous: I'm going by what I've experienced using those people as my cashier or car washer. There's a reason some people rise and some people don't.

Quoting Kazoo22:

lol. How would you know this? Have you done or seen research that agrees/proves that statement or are you just generalizing?

Quoting Anonymous: The majority of them aren't even worth the $7 per hour they receive. Entitlement in its finest.

Quoting AVSpecWife4: It's easy why wages have remained the same. Ignorant individuals like anon continue putting assholes into office that fight against raising min wage. It's always the fault of those working the menial jobs. Never realizing fuckwits like her depend on people to work those menial jobs. The cashiers at the grocery stores who take her money , the stockers that stock the warehouses and stores that she shops at, the barista that makes her latte, the car she drives is serviced by those working the menial jobs. They are worth more than the shit wages they get.

Doesn't matter if they like their jobs or not. They are entitled to getting paid what they're worth

Quoting Kazoo22:

So the recession and people with education being forced into menial jobs is their fault? Yes many people do make bad life choices, but why try to punish people as a whole for a few who do? Shouldn't we be looking more at why inflation has increased but pay has remained stagnant?

Are you aware that increasing minimum wage would also unburden the taxpayers a bit?

Quoting Anonymous: If they don't like those jobs plenty of opportunity is provided for those who want it. People are paying for bad life choices, that's not the governments fault.

Quoting AVSpecWife4: Bullshit. Not everyone can be at the top jobs. There will always be a need for those to work the crap jobs. Scrubbing toilets, serving food, fixing cars, etc. they are worth more than the crap they're paid. People not working hard enough isn't the issue. Do you know people would worker harder if they're paid more?

Quoting Anonymous: If people want to earn more they can better themselves and work harder to achieve it. I don't think minimum wage should go up, people need to work harder.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose? What's the difference in being poor at $7 an hour vs $15? Why should lower wages double and everyone else get a paltry 1-2%? Which an employer does not even have to do because the higher paid employees are in compliance.
Quoting AVSpecWife4: Well, of course all wages would go up. That's usually how it works.

Quoting MrsErdos2011:

I agree. Wages need to rise across the board.

Quoting Anonymous: Only if other wages increase accordingly. A burger flipper or shelf stocker shouldn't make what a CNA makes, or almost half of what an RN makes.
Quoting AVSpecWife4: Thank you

I'm sick of people saying it'll be doom and gloom to raise min wage. Prices may go up to balance it out, but for the most part, we won't see $15 cheeseburgers, $12 for a gallon of milk.

We need a min wage increase. 7.25 is ridiculously too low.

To add, $15 as a min wage is too high, but $10 an hour would be perfect.

That's right, I've only encountered 15 service people in my life.

As soon as they ALL have GEDs/dipolmas/degrees I wouldn't mind it going up, but moving it up to $15 is a laughable joke to think they are even worth that when they haven't even completed school.

They're paid anywhere from $17-$19/hr or more to start where I live and they're worth every penny according to my WalMart which currently flies employees in from other states to work here.

You don't get to dictate what other people are worth.

Quoting Anonymous: Lol they don't work enough to earn that much. Lazy and toothless, putting things on a belt at Walmart should not be paid more than $7.

Quoting AVSpecWife4: Yep. They are worth higher wages. They're worth what they put into their jobs, which is more than $7.25 an hour. Regardless of your shitty opinion of them they're people too and are entitled to earning what they work for.

SO are you saying it takes more skill to change a shitty diaper than it does to flip a burger .  CNA's  are bed making ass wipers and nothing more

No, she's an elitist. What's interesting, is I'm currently watch Elysium - her disgust and loathing of those who make less than her is telling

You know, I always make sure to tell the hotel maids thank you when they've cleaned my room, or thank my waitress when she clears my food, or the janitor that cleans up others messes. They provide valuable services and are in thankless jobs, serving assholes like some of the bitches here. Treated like vermin.

Sorry, I'm venting. What people don't get, is many who are in these menial jobs are not educated or able to just "move up". They lack education, skills, money, support, motivation, or the ability to learn new skills to get to the higher tiered jobs. That doesn't mean they are worthless, but they should still be paid for the hard work they do.
