My MIL thought I should have given her a steak and taken it from my son...

My MIL has a bad habit of dropping by unannounced. I find it very rude and very annoying, and my DH has asked her to stop.

Tonight I was making steak for my husband, son (10) and myself. We had three average portion sized steaks, enough to be satisfying for one each. My MIL dropped by and invited herself to stay for dinner as I was finishing up the cooking. I told her the only other meat we have defrosted were hotdogs. She said "oh, okay. James will like that".

James is my son. Um, no, he was excited for steak at dinner, because I made a full steak dinner as a celebration of his team winning a hockey tournament. I explained that to her and she didn't eat meat with dinner, but was sulky and huffy about it the whole time.

I seriously can't believe her nerve.

Wow that's ballsy!! If I'm making something like spaghetti or soup then yeah I'm more than happy to invite a guest to stay but for things like steak or even chicken I usually just do enough for our family

my daughter would have offered her grandmother part of her steak without even having to have been asked

That's pretty bold of her. If she didn't like what was available for her she should have just gone home.

My son did. At that point she was huffy about it and refused.

Quoting malissaL: my daughter would have offered her grandmother part of her steak without even having to have been asked
