I'm not getting anything on my kids' Christmas lists this year!

I have decided to just get them random gifts that I think they will enjoy and make it a complete surprise. I am tired of them knowing exactly everything they will get. Not this year. I didn't even ask what they wanted.

How do you decide what gifts to get in your family?

My younger ones I just pick the things I know they will like. For my 17 year old, I stick to his list

i find stuff based on their passions or whats important in their life at the time and then I spend some time planting seeds. They love it :D

Then why have them make a list?

I get them everything on their lists and then a bunch of other stuff. Well, if the things on their lists are reasonable. My youngest asked for the incredible me fart blaster....there is no way in hell I'm buying that, lol.

I get a mix of requests and surprises.

I have a 6yr old ds and just found an awesome steel safe for kids. He wouldn't know to ask for it but I know he'll love it.

I do surprise gifts as well requested items. Last year I replaced gifts with household items dish soap, trash bags, toothpaste, toilet paper, and such. They open those then an hour later I gave them the real stuff. It was so funny.

My son will be 2 on thursday. The only thing he was really asking for was a skateboard. He asked for a month strait. He didn't understand waiting for a holiday (I tried lol) so he got it early.
The rest is a surprise

I said in the OP that this year I did not ask them what they wanted.

I've never asked. So far, they've liked everything I got them in the past. *crossing fingers*
