Are you better than a retail worker?

So I used to work retail in college to pay my own tuition & cost of living. I would constantly have customers that talked down to me or treated me like crap & acted like they were better than me. I really didn't have a problem with it at the time because I knew that I was working hard to make a better life for myself.

Today I was at the store doing some Christmas shopping when the woman in front of me in the checkout line went off on the cashier. It reminded me of the jerk customers I used to have to deal with & I felt bad for the cashier (who was just doing her job & trying to remain calm while being screamed at). When it was my turn to checkout I was extra nice to the cashier because I remember how big of a difference that could make.

I'm just curious do people out there feel like they're better than retail workers? Or is there some other reason that people feel it's ok to treat someone that's just trying to do their job & earn a paycheck like crap?

I've never had that mentality. I respect you for working and having a job and I give you the same kind of attitude you give me in return. I've never been rude to someone in retail or any other place like that because I felt superior to them.

Yes they do. And when I was in retail management, those customer got escorted out of the store by me. I would never stand for my employees being treated like that.

Nope. A job is a job. Especially these days.

I work in retail. I love it and so far I haven't experienced any horrible customers. a couple slightly annoyed ones, but not just any flat out rude ones though.

It depends on the retail worker. Lots are assholes. Pissed off because they hate their job. Your job isn't my problem, give service with a smile.

I certainly don't. I've had those types of jobs and I know that a lot of them work harder and have to put up with way more shit than I do now.

I can't stand people being rude to retail workers. You (retail workers) can't say anything back to them BUT I sure as hell can put them on blast for being assholes and I enjoy doing that also, lol

I never thought about it.

my friend worked at Calvin Klein in NYC, she made well over $100,000.
