Well, not totally true, we've bought him a shirt and an axe kit with body spray, deodorant, body wash, etc. And that's all! He's 12 years old and grounded from pretty much everything for failing 6 out of 8 classes. We were going to upgrade his phone, but that's been taken away along with video games. What sorts of things can we buy him besides more clothes?

6 out of 8?   Wow.  I guess I'd give him some sweets maybe but nothing too great like electronics or toys.

Why is he failing?

You could buy him the presents you were going to, tell him about them and let him earn them by getting his grades up.

He already has one! He's a smart kid, he is failing on purpose! He deliberately doesn't turn work in that we've made him sit at the table and do for hours!

Are you sure he's in the right grade then? He might need to move up.

Ya, I'd actually do this until he can learn to be responsible and actually TURN IN the work he's already done. Failing on purpose is just stupid.

Right! Thanks for the suggestions! No way is he getting electronics and he's "too big" for toys.
