This new debate confuses me! Edit- follow up question

Posted by   + Show Post
So lately on my morning shows I've been seeing there is a big debate on whether or not its rude to ask your guests to take off their shoes when they come in your house. I'm curious on thoughts.

For those who say its rude and its uncomfortable not to wear shoes, then would iuyt make sense to keep a pohair of house shoes with you? Then you can have shoes, but not ones that have been worn outside in dirt, snow etc?
For those who say it isn't rude, do you provide booties or new socks for your guests?

Not rude at all. My so used to stand inside my door on the tile till he felt like taking his work boots off because I wouldnt allow him on the carpet till he did. Sometimes hed plop on to my couch next to the door with his feet in the air lol.

I don't think it's rude at all and we know a lot of people who do it.

When we get to the beach house tomorrow, with our friends, we'll be asking that people leave their shoes outside, on the porch.  No one ever complains.

That was why I was a little floored to even see it as a debate. I jist always found it a common courtesy thing as well.

Quoting aandt1999: I don't ask people to take them off, but I notice when they don't, and it bugs me. I clean my floors very well, right along with the rest of my home. I think it's only common courtesy to assume people don't want your dirty shoes on their floors. They don't have to be visibly caked with mud to be filthy. I always remove my shoes in someone else's home. It's just common sense to me.

I didn't realize this was a debate! I always take off my shoes...I just assumed others did too?

Not everyone's opinion is the same this is just mine. I think carpets should be steamed cleaned once a month if you are going to have them. I think carpet tends to be super gross with bacteria anyways(I don't have any). It is just my opinion I don't like carpet so maybe that is why my opinion is different than most.

Quoting momto1ryen: I don't understand the lazy part. I have tile and carpet. While tile may clean easily carpet will eventually become dicolored not just from dirt but also from constant cleaning. Why would me want to keep my carpet nice be lazy?

Quoting Anonymous:

I think it is rude...I consider it an attempt to be lazy and not have to clean your floors as often.I don't want a 100 different bare feet with foot fungi etc on my floor just sounds gross to me. I actually sweep, mop, and santize after guests.

We pray on our floors and most people that come into our home know to take the shoes off. The people that don't know, I do not make a big deal about it and just let it slide. No point in making the guest feel uncomfortable.

I was thinking the same thing.  Most of my floor is the same tile you find in grocery stores so I don't care about shoes and stuff but if I got brand new carpet I would hate for some of the stuff that I sweep up daily to be stuck in my carpet.

After reading the replies, I am floored (ha ha...get it?)

I would be so grossed out if someone took their shoes off in my house. Feet are so yuck to me. I don't want to see your socks and I definitely don't want to see your bare feet. I would be so put off by that.

This is the weirdest thing to me. I'm gonna have to ask the people I know IRL to weigh in on this
