Store clerks correcting kids?

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

I had to take my kids to a boutique today to exchange some of my elderly mother's presents. The place was a zoo and the exchanges were taking a long time. My boys (6 and 3) were running around in the not busy area that had woman's swim suits.

A store clerk went over to them, even though I was 10 feet away and had been talking to them, and said "where's your parents? Stop running right now!" and glared at them. I went and got them, losing my place in line and asked her to please address me with any issues regarding my children. She just looked at me and said "fine, please make sure your children don't run, since it's inappropriate and disturbing other customers" and walked off.

I asked to speak to the owner, and apparently that's the owner's daughter. What do you think? Was she out of line in speaking to them?

No. Since you can't control your kids, someone needs to teach them how to act in public.

My kids would not have neen running around.
You need to teach them proper behavior.

If you weren't going to keep them from running around the store an employee needed to. It's a store not a park.

Try parenting your kids next time. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any damage or injuries that were caused by the children of lazy parents either.

She was not out of line. You were for not watching your own children.

The only person out of line was you. By your own admission, your kids were running around, and it makes no difference if they were running around in the "not busy" area. If you can't maintain control of them for the time it takes to make a return, leave them at home. The poor clerk shouldn't have had to correct your kids. They were acting completely inappropriately for the environment, and it's your job to stop them.
